All about Barbara Huffert

Barbara Huffert Bio -- In the past year I've rearranged my entire life. Or started to since I'm no where near finished. Actually, I'm not sure where I'll end up but one thing I know for sure is that it'll be an adventure.

Here's what's happened so far. I was reorganized out of a job in a company I'd worked for for nearly 23 years. Once out, I realized how stale things had gotten and although I miss some of the people I do not miss the job. I stumbled into a new job that is so completely different you can't imagine. So far so good with that endeavor. I had three books published, two with Total-E-Bound and one with Ellora's Cave. I've always written but previously just for me. Sure I let a few friends read things but sending my stories out there for the entire world to see? I would have said it was impossible. One other major change, I ended a 15 year relationship. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to go about dating again? I have no idea!

How Barbara got into Erotic Romance

I never sat down and decided to write erotic romances. It's just what came out. All my life I've had journals where I recorded random thoughts and narratives of my life. I didn't think to attempt a book until a friend challenged me. We were discussing something we had read, commenting on how poorly written it was and I claimed that I could do better. She dared me to prove it. Also I didn't think to try and be published until my friends pushed me into it. Pushed as in nagged ceaselessly. I submitted to shut them up, thinking I could show them my rejection letter and that would be the end of it. Guess they were right after all since I got an acceptance instead.

The Scoop!

Right now I'm working on too many things at once so nothing's getting finished. I'm revising some things in order to submit them, writing new stories and plotting in my head. No wonder I'm so tired all the time.

What Barbara likes to read...

Everything and anything. I've been known to read the shampoo bottle if there's nothing else within reach. My favorite authors change with my mood. It's not unusual for me to have several books going at once, an ebook for when I'm working on the computer and need a break, an upstairs book and a downstairs book.

INTERVIEW

The Sensible Questions:

1. What made you start writing erotic romance?
It's what is inside my head. I didn't really have a choice once the characters picked me to tell their story.
2. What inspired you to write your first book?
A friend challenged me after I made the claim that I could write something better than the book we had just finished.
3. What's your process for writing a book?
I sit down and write. The characters live in my head and feed me what they think you should know. Sometimes it's as if there's a continuous movie playing that I can start and stop at will, sometimes one character narrates, sometimes several all talk at once. There are also times when I'm certain my cat, Mouse, purrs the stories to me. I think he's the real storyteller in the family.
4. What do you enjoy about writing?
I love to go back and reread what I've written and discover things I don't remember.
5. What really p's you off about writing?
Uncooperative characters. I have one WIP that the heroine didn't want to let me finish it. I finally had to threaten to blow her up in a plane crash before she would tell me the ending.
6. Who would you count as your biggest supporters?
My small circle of reader friends and my bigger circle of on-line writer friends. I don't know what I'd do without those awesome ladies.
7. How do you celebrate when you finish a book?
By sharing it with someone new in addition to the usual friends. Last time was an amazing woman who I'd been chatting with on one of the groups.
8. Describe your writing space.
Um, my purple couch in my palest pink living room with at least one of my three cats trying to help me type. Maybe I should let them. Could be interesting reading what they come up with.

The Naughty Questions:

How many toys do you have in your toy-box? (and we don't mean Barbie dolls!)
Mm, toys. Not enough room here to list them all with their multiple uses. Email me and we'll talk!
What or who does your ideal man look like?
I don't really have an ideal man. Sometimes I find I'm attracted to the least likely one. I like when that happens because it's always such a surprise.
Top or bottom?
Do I have to choose, can't I have both?

How would you describe you sex life?
Read my books for a partial description and stay tuned for more installments.

Have any of your toys accidentally gone "public"? Tell us all about it. (We won't tell)
Accidentally? Not possible. I'll talk to anyone about anything and I'm not opposed to demonstrations if there are questions!

What's a woman to do when faced with yet another in a never-ending cycle of anniversaries guaranteed to ruin her day?
Step one, respond when contacted on-line by a friendly couple.
Step two, accept the wife's claim of the husband's empathic sensitivities as fact.

Step four, have the courage to put complete control in his more than capable hands.
Step five, don't think. Go with the flow. Be open to all possibilities. Relax and enjoy.
Step six, repeat frequently.

What the reviewers are saying

4/5 from Night Owl Romance
Since My Last Dark Day was written in first person and the heroine had many emotional issues, the book was psychologically intense. Personally, I liked the added tension and felt Ms. Huffert did a good job of getting me and keeping me in the Heroine's head. - Night Owl Romance

An 85 Rating from Miss Giggles
My Last Dark Day, being short and straight to the point, is what it is. I am not going to touch about characterization and romance because it is not that kind of story. The only thing I am concerned with, therefore, is that it works for me. That is more than enough for me. - Miss Giggles
