All about Bebe Balocca

Bebe BaloccaI live in tiny town in the rural southeast of the U.S. with my husband and sons. I love my laidback lifestyle, but I also love to escape into the decadent erotic fantasies I dream up.

I've been writing for about a decade under my legal name for magazines and for an educational company. I'd dabbled in romance, but decided to really go for it in 2011. I penned a hot little tale of lusty gargoyles called "Carved into her Heart" and sent it off to Total-E-Bound. Since then, I've been cooking up erotic romance novels and novellas and having a blast.

How Bebe Balocca got into Erotic Romance?

My husband of eighteen years loves to stuff my Christmas stocking with hot little paperbacks. (And no, that's not a dirty little euphemism.) I've read tons of romances, from spicy-sweet to downright smutty, and found something to appreciate in every one. I've always wanted to write fiction, so erotic romance was a perfect fit. The thing that appeals to me about erotic romance is the daring wildness of the whole thing. You can't be bashful or restrained when you write it-”all that is chucked out the window with the first sex scene.

The Scoop!

On Thursdays, I have guest authors on my blog for Full Exposure interviews. It's a great way to learn about authors and their new releases.

My next release is "Curse of the Tiger" from Total-E-Bound. It'll be available for Pre-release on May 27 at a discount and have its general release on June 21. I'll have a giveaway to celebrate the day my tiger runs free.

What Bebe Balocca likes to read...

Lately I've been leaning toward year's best anthologies of sci-fi and fantasy. I tear through highly imaginative short stories and feel like they fuel my own creativity. I enjoyed Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel series quite a bit (those are probably due for a reread, now that I think about it) and I am a huge fan of Stephen King's Dark Tower series. All-time favorite books include Peace Like a River, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Gone With the Wind. I'm all over the place!

INTERVIEW

The Sensible Questions:

1.How have your life experiences affected your writing?
I feel very secure in my marriage, family and friendships, and that gives me the courage to put it all out there in my writing. The other writing I've done, especially the educational contract work, has definitely limbered me up and honed my skills.

2.Which of your characters is your favourite, and why?
I really loved Ivy in A Ghost on Two Wheels. Perhaps because I wrote it in first person, present tense, I felt especially connected to her. Her experiences and reactions were very real to me - I cried at times while writing the novella.

3.What heat level do you enjoy writing most, and why?
Very high heat -mostly melting, with some taboo. I like to immerse myself in the whole experience as I write (and seek to get readers there, too) so I include what's going on with all the senses, as well as emotional reactions. I want to get my audience to get as excited while reading it as I do while writing.

4.What authors have influenced you most (not necessarily in the romance genre)?
I'd love to be able to write like J.R.R. Tolkien - who wouldn't? He conjured up an entire world, complete with languages and mythology. He's always an inspiration. I admire the way that Stephen King gets so visceral with details that he pulls you right in to the action, and I love how Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett make me laugh and think. I appreciate, too, the way that Janet Evanovich writes with such effective and elegant simplicity. Every time I read one of her Numbers novels, I'm reminded to never use a five-dollar word when a nickel one will do.

5.Which comes to you first when you write, the basic premise of the plot, or the characters?
Generally one hot scene comes to me, then I figure out who those people are and exactly how that got themselves in that steamy situation. For example, I loved the idea of a sex scene in a mud bath - and "Bubbles and Troubles" grew from there.

6.What is the biggest lesson that you've learned since you began writing?
Having a skilled editor (or two or three) go through your work is essential. It is amazing what gets by me, even after careful read-throughs. Editors are awesome.

7.Describe your writing space.
My husband and I converted our attic into my office a couple of years ago. It is the most meaningful gift I've ever been given. I got to decorate it myself (terra cottas, beiges, and natural elements like shells and wood) so I feel completely at home here. It's my private space.

Here's my desk, with my miniature dachshund, Scarlett, in her first mate seat next to mine. Note the reading glasses, kicked-off slippers, coffee cup, and piles of ponytail holders and lotion bottles. That's a copy of "The World Treasury of Science Fiction" that's giving my screen a boost, by the way.

Here's the view from my window. Yes, I have a mama robin who's set up housekeeping on my ledge. She gives me the stink eye when I move too fast.

The Naughty Questions:

How many toys do you have in your toy-box? (and we don't mean Barbie dolls!)
Toys, schmoys. I prefer boys.

What or who does your ideal man look like?
A manly man who can cut down a tree, cook dinner, and then clean up good in a suit and tie. Confidence and interesting quirks are a must. And I'm not sure what's sexier than a handsome man, all dressed up and formal, with a smidgeon of a tattoo peeking out from his folded-back cuff.

So, yeah, pretty boys, not so much. I like men who are rugged and look like they've been through some stuff.

Are any of the sexy scenes in your books based on real life?
There are a few outdoorsy scenes that were inspired by some al fresco love, and many of the geographical settings are places that I know and love well. "A Ghost on Two Wheels" revolves around motorcycle rides and tattoos. My husband and I love to get away on his motorcycle, and we've both got some ink on us. However, we've never gotten quite as uninhibited as Ivy and Michael did on their Indian Chief.

What kind of clothing do you like to wear in order to feel sexy?
I have one of those turbo-charged bras from Victoria's Secret that adds something like three cup sizes. It's awesome. My husband loves it when I wear it with a low-cut top. And I adore beautiful undies, high heels, pearls and silk on my skin.

What kind of clothing do you think makes men look sexy?
I like open collars so that I can see some skin and maybe a bit of chest hair, with sleeves pushed back a bit. Well-groomed and toned, but not to the point of preening. I like a bit of scruff.

What is the most outrageously naughty thing you've ever done?
Oh my, I'm not sure if I should confess that. Can we just say that it involved a hotel room and leave it at that?

What the reviewers are saying

"I love this author's stories. The characters are great. How Bebe comes up with some of these stories, I will never know but they are always worth the read. My only issue is, I have to make sure my hubby is home when I read them. Talk about getting you hot! Chloe & Damien both have issues. Damien knows he can help Chloe and doesn't realize he has an issue Chloe is his answer for. Two people, each finding themselves as well as each other. Awesome story Great read! Thanks Bebe keep them coming!" -Julie's Book Reviews

Prescott Woods is in trouble! A belly dancing lawyer, a stray cat of highly questionable origin, and a particularly malodorous gnome come to the rescue.

Carmen loves living in Charade, Kentucky. The quirky Appalachian village is everything that Chicago wasn't. Populated by modern day New Agers, Charade is like Mayberry with tie-dyed shirts, organic food, and incense thrown in for flavour. When Calvin Prescott makes plans to sell his land to a high-end property developer, Carmen fears that the town she calls home will be changed forever. A new neighbourhood of multi-million dollar mansions would spell disaster for Charade's simple, small town charm.

Brock and his family moved to Prescott Woods over two hundred years ago. Like the other magical beings of the woods, they are immortal and imbued with special powers. Destruction of Prescott Woods would mean more than a change of pace for Brock and his kind-”it would mean death. Brock can take on the appearance of anything-”including animals of all sizes and shapes-”in order to get closer to Carmen and save his home.

As Carmen learns more of the secrets of Prescott Woods, she finds that Brock is irresistibly strokeable, regardless of his appearance. She also uncovers danger, family drama, and the most luxuriant subterranean spa she can imagine.

What the reviewers are saying

"A Princess of Mars was intriguing, entertaining, and addicting!" -Creative Scene Investigations

"I recommend as awesome/enjoyable! The hero, a crazy uncle gone off a bit more than usual, tells his nephew (post-mortem) the gory details of seemingly-coma-induced adventures leaving nothing out...from masturbating with Martian berries to enjoying the sweet surrender of the zaftig red virgin, no I mean an actual alien virgin. The story is a lubricated enhancement to the PG13 movie that left my fellow passengers staring at the same screen I enjoyed on a transatlantic flight, surprised that such a wonderous sci-fi story had reached film." -Sci-Fi Erotic Reviews
