All about Gwendolyn Cease

Gwendolyn CeaseI've written as long as I can remember and even as I child I knew I wanted to be a published author. Though my subject matter has changed dramatically from those long ago days, my need to write hasn't. Currently, I am writing singly as Gwendolyn Cease and also with one of my best friends Jessica Jarman as J.G. Riley. Writing with a partner gives me someone to bounce ideas off of, which I've never had before. I'm really excited about the upcoming stories we have planned and cannot wait to get started.

How Gwendolyn Cease got into Erotic Romance?

My stories have always had hotter elements to them, but I didn't write a true erotic romance until I wrote BE MINE, which was totally by accident. A friend of mine was an editor for Samhain Publishing and she was given the Valentine Anthology for that year. This was all very last minute so she called me and said, "Hey, I need a really hot Valentine story in 2 weeks." Ummmm, okay. So I sat and wrote it in less than 2 weeks. Now this friend/editor is also my writing/critique partner and I knew she'd bust me if it wasn't any good. But, low and behold, she liked it and it was published.

The Scoop!

I have 2 books coming out, one in January (Contact Point) and one in February (Dark Fall). I am also working on two more books in the Bond series called Love Bond and Soul Bond. I think this should wrap those up. I'm also working on two pieces with my writing partner, Jessica Jarman, and we will be publishing those under the name J.G. Riley. We've also started a newsletter and we'll be writing a story for that. We'll put a chapter a month out and it's called Hauntingly Normal.

What Gwendolyn Cease likes to read...

I love anything written by Nora Roberts, Jayne Anne Krentz, or Lora Leigh. I think they are fabulous authors. Within the last few years I added Shelly Laurenston to my must read list also. Truthfully, I don't do a whole lot of reading since I tend to lose myself in the book and not write. Not a good thing for a writer.

INTERVIEW

The Sensible Questions:

1.How have your life experiences affected your writing?
I tend to gather story ideas from either places I've been or things I've seen on TV that really catch my attention.

2.Which of your characters is your favourite, and why?
Whoever I'm working on at the moment and has my attention is usually my favourite. But if I had to pick on characters I would say Jaz Maloney from Blood Bond and Heart Bond. He is so much fun and just who he is. Jaz has a very high opinion of himself, but that ultimately hides a deep vulnerability. Now if you go and tell him this I will deny, since he will never let me hear the end of it and demand to appear in all the stories.

3.What heat level do you enjoy writing most, and why?
I don't really have a preference though I have found myself writing more erotic romance. I think if the story calls for it then I'll write it, but if not I don't force it. I know as a reader I don't want to read a string of sex scenes that have no story to bind them. So, I will not write that type of novel. The story is the most important thing and if it calls for a love scene I really enjoy writing them, but I don't preplan where to stick one in.

4.What authors have influenced you most (not necessarily in the romance genre)?
The author that has influenced me the most has been Nora Roberts. I love the way she puts words together. Her sentences flow so easily and always paint an incredible picture that is so easy to see. Also, her work ethic is amazing. She writes everyday for, at least, 7 to 8 hours a day and puts out an astonishing 7 books a year. She is what I aspire to be as an author.

5.Which comes to you first when you write, the basic premise of the plot, or the characters?
Both, depending on what book we're talking about. For instance, Contact Point started with Jesse Chandler. I was standing in the check-out line at Tractor Supply and this young guy was ahead of me. He was purchasing a warranty and the clerk asked his name. As soon as he said Jesse Chandler, I got the full image of my character right there in my head. Be Mine, on the other hand, came from a real life situation where I had two friends who were engaged and then broke up.

6.What is the biggest lesson that you've learned since you began writing?
The biggest lesson I've learned is to just write the story. I can't worry about revising or fixing or anything until it's finished. As Nora Roberts once said, "You can't fix what isn't there." That has gotten to be my mantra as I start a new story. I always have a hard time with the first chapter or two, but I just ignore it and write. I know that I can fix it once I'm done, but if I keep tweaking the first two chapters I'll have 2 great chapters, but nothing else.

7.Describe your writing space.
I have an office with my desktop system in it and I love it. The office is painted coral and reminds me of my very favorite place, the beach. One day, I'm going to have a house on the beach because I love it so much.

This isn't really where I write though. LOL I have a laptop so my normal place to write is actually lounging on my bed. My fat...ummm, fluffy, big-boned cat Warlock sleeps at my feet while I type away. When my writing partner, Jessica, comes to town we head to Barnes & Noble and sit there to write while we drink iced chai tea lattes made with soy milk. Yummy!!

Here is my faithful writing companion, Warlock. I had to really watch when to take a picture since he isn't often upright and awake. It takes a lot of naps to maintain that physique.

The Naughty Questions:

How many toys do you have in your toy-box? (and we don't mean Barbie dolls!)
I have a few...umm less than 50, but more than 1. LOL

What or who does your ideal man look like?
As per below!!

Nathan Fillion!

Viggo Mortenson!

Jason Momoa!

Are any of the sexy scenes in your books based on real life?
No, though the woman who FLE'd Be Mine was totally convinced Caleb Sinclair was real and my man. My answer to that, "I wish!!"

What kind of clothing do you like to wear in order to feel sexy?
I can feel sexy in anything since I think sexy is really a state of mind.

What kind of clothing do you think makes men look sexy?
Clothing?? No, I think a nice pair of jeans and an untucked black oxford shirt is very sexy.

What is the most outrageously naughty thing you've ever done?
I used to go out clubbing all the time and one night I just picked this man up and we danced and made out all night long. And that's all I'll say...LOL

What the reviewers are saying

"5 out of 5! I loved her creativity and imagination, and it will not be my last. I hope to find she has more stories with her version of the vampire and human world, and if they aren't written yet, I hope she has more planned. I would love to read more stories about some of the secondary characters found in this book, like Kell's best friend Jaz. If you love vampires but are looking for a different twist, read Blood Bond. You will not be disappointed." -“Fallen Angel Reviews

"Blood Bond is an excellent story, well written and thought provoking. It is a new twist on what people think of as "vampires". Gwendolyn Cease has done a wickedly lovely job of bringing you into her world and letting you see it as she does. My only complaint would be, it is not long enough. Is there more that I have missed and please tell me where to find it. I would love to continue on with this storyline." -“Night Owl Reviews

Jaz Maloney lives his single life to the fullest, but when a stalker destroys his family it takes one sexy male Vitala to give him protection and win his heart.

Jaz Maloney is the scion to a wealthy Vitala family and all he wants to do is have fun. Especially if it involves Jin, a tall, dark, handsome stranger who totally rocks his world. But the fun ends when an older male Vitala puts a claim on Jaz and attempts to force him under his control. When Jaz refuses the male goes before the senate and, using old Vitala law, destroys Jaz's family. Devastated, Jaz sees no other option, but to do what this male wants until Master Ryujin steps forward to defend him.

Master Ryujin, is only in the city for a brief visit, when he steps in to stop what he sees as a miscarriage of justice. Of course, it doesn't hurt that the male he's protecting is the same one that caught his attention at a club. But he's certainly not looking for a life partner.

Ryujin and Jaz have nothing in common, but when the heart speaks, these two men can do nothing but answer.

What the reviewers are saying

"This short tale does an exquisite job of world building in a very short space. It contains characters from a previous book, but, as I can safely say, not having read it, Heart Bond reads very well on its own. I will be looking for more stories by this author and set in this world." -“Rainbow Reviews
