All about Bobbie Russell

I still have the very first book I wrote -“ "The Jewel Filled Jar." It was in pencil on 4 pages of lined paper and I designed my own crayon cover. I know it will be worth millions when I die! I've always loved writing but never seriously thought about writing a full length novel until some twenty years ago. Since then, I've been published in full length fiction and short stories, poetry, magazine articles and literary essays. I even wrote and co-produced a documentary on Kansas history that won state and regional awards. My real love continues to be romance and HEA endings. There's no rhyme or reason to the way I write. Sometimes ideas come to me full blown and I can write a novel in 3 months. Other times, I have an idea but struggle with characters and plots gone awry. Besides writing under the name Bobbie Russell for TEB, I write under Barbara Baldwin.

How Bobbie Russell got into Erotic Romance?

It was a hot flash, menopausal moment! I had been writing time travel and historical romance when erotic came into being. I decided to see if I could do a contemporary that was really hot. WOW, did I surprise myself. I loved the freedom of writing just exactly what my characters were doing instead of closing the door on the really good parts!

The Scoop!

I've contracted a novella -“ "Winning Molly" with TEB that will be out in February 2009. It's a really hot "sex with a stranger" book where the hero is a computer wizard (not your usual type hero) who is just as savvy in the bedroom as he is on the computer. I've also just finished a transformational book based on recent, life-changing experiences, and have plans for a series in a fictitious town called Snow that I keep going back to.

What Bobbie Russell likes to read...

Although I grew up with Perry Mason mysteries and all the Black Stallion books, I now love Amanda Quick, Catherine Coulter and Julie Garwood.

INTERVIEW

The Sensible Questions:

1.How have your life experiences affected your writing?
I'm like Alfred Hitchcock who appeared somewhere in all of his movies. There's always a little of me in all my stories. It may be a scene out of my life, a character who's someone I actually know, a favourite article of clothing.

2.Which of your characters is your favourite, and why?
I loved Linc Parrish in ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT. Not only was he a hot, hot guy, but he was considerate. Not everyone could live with a bunch of old ladies and still remain a gentleman!

3.What heat level do you enjoy writing most, and why?
I love writing love scenes at all heat levels, but I probably prefer sensual -“ full blown scenes with softer language but still very spicy!!

4.What authors have influenced you most (not necessarily in the romance genre)?
I don't know about influencing me, but I fell in love with romance with my first Kathleen Woodiwiss novel, "Ashes in the Wind."

5.Which comes to you first when you write, the basic premise of the plot, or the characters?
I think the basic premise for the plot comes first. However, I have found that once I find my characters, they often take over the plot and go off on tangents. Of course, it is their story, so I guess if they want to linger in the bedroom, who am I to argue?

6.What is the biggest lesson that you've learned since you began writing?
Not every genre is for every reader or author. I can't write werewolf/vampire/horror. I love writing hot romance and HEA but some of my writer friends don't like to read really sexy stuff. That doesn't mean I shouldn't write it.

7.Describe your writing space.
Nothing very glamorous I'm afraid. I just have a regular old desk and laptop. I don't need lots of knick-knack stuff to make me creative, and I don't like clutter, so the smaller the desk, the better to keep me organized. Of course, I have been known to pull off the side of the road and write on any available scrap of paper when a scene or exciting dialogue pops into my head.

The Naughty Questions:

How many toys do you have in your toy-box? (and we don't mean Barbie dolls!)
It's like the real thing. If you have the right (size) one, you only need 1.

What or who does your ideal man look like?
I'd take Richard Gere or Adrian Paul (Highlander) any day! Age doesn't matter as many, many men age soooo well.

Adrian Paul

Are any of the sexy scenes in your books based on real life?
Of course they are! With variations based on genre. For example, the hot tub is a favourite of mine, but since they didn't exist in historical times, I substitute a lake, waterfall or hot springs.

What kind of clothing do you like to wear in order to feel sexy?
Lacy undies and something that zips for easy removal!

What kind of clothing do you think makes men look sexy?
I love a dressed up guy! (Put him in a tux or dress slacks and an oxford shirt with the sleeves rolled up a little.) He can have his shirt opened, but keep the pants on -“ I love a mystery!

What is the most outrageously naughty thing you've ever done?
Probably making love outside at night where we could have gotten caught at any time!

Lincoln Parish has an attitude. That's what got him in trouble and now he's doing community service time at an old ladies' retirement home. But the women there also have attitudes, and they floor him with their frank discussions of sex and questions about how firm his butt muscles are. The one redeeming factor is the director, Suni Hart, especially when Linc discovers the beautiful young woman is also there for a reason. She has an unusual attitude toward sex.

She likes it - a lot.

And while she may be trying to keep her secret, the little old ladies know. They make a point of causing problems that will throw the two young people together and Linc is more than happy to feed Suni's addiction as they explore the passion that grows rapidly between them.
