All about Victoria Blisse

Victoria BlisseOkay, so who am I? Well, I am a mum, a wife, a Christian and a massive Manchester United fan. Oh, and of course I am an author of erotic romance.

I was born and bred in the North West of England and you will find that my Northern lass quirkiness shines through all my writing. When I am not tip tapping away at another erotic masterpiece you will often find me in my kitchen. I love baking and making people smile with my food. Luckily, more often than not they do smile after eating one of my cakes or biscuits.

I sing in my church choir and I am often asked to sing solo. Yeah, so low that they can't hear me! I do everything with enthusiasm and I am one of nature's optimists. That is why you will always find a happily ever after in my stories.

I got my first publishing break in November of 2006 when my first ever submitted story was accepted by Phaze for a Christmas release. I haven't stopped writing since and now have several titles with Phaze, Total-E-Bound and will soon be featuring in the Ultimate Curves anthology from Xcite.

How Victoria Blisse got into Erotic Romance?

You can all blame it on the bloke who is now my husband. He introduced me to the world of erotic stories and it was him again who encouraged me to write some.

Every step of the way my husband has encouraged me to keep writing and to submit my finished articles to publishers. Without Mr. Blisse, I doubt I would have written a single sensual word let alone whole erotic romance stories!

The Scoop!

Well, at the moment I am working on a Christmas story, no, really. Which I will be submitting to Total-E-Bound very soon. I love Christmas and stories of the season are some of my very favourites to write.

Now, if you'd like to meet me, there is a chance that I will be going to the RNA conference in Penrith for part of the weekend between the 10th and the 12th of July. As it is, I've got no firm plans but if you sign up for my newsletter I will keep you informed.

It's easy to sign up for my newsletter, just pop over to victoriablisse.co.uk and at the top right hand side of the page is a newsletter sign up area. Just bob your email in there and you will receive all the latest Blisse news direct to your inbox!

Then in September I know I will definitely be at the Leeds Erotica Festival, no prizes for guessing where that's going to be held! Again I have no precise dates or exact activities, but sign up to the newsletter and I will keep people up to date from there.

What Victoria Blisse likes to read...

I love fantasy, and not always sexual ones. I have always had a soft spot for made up worlds and mythical beasts and even now I re-read the favourites from my childhood like the Narnia books and the Prydain series by Lloyd Alexander.

David Gemmell is my favourite ever epic fantasy writer and his book Dark Moon never fails to excite every human emotion inside of me. When I want a good laugh or a sideways look at the world, I pick up a Discworld Novel. Terry Pratchett is a complete genius and my favourite Discworld character is Death and my favourite book is Mort.

But I will read anything that catches my fancy from romance to thriller and anything in between. I just love a good read.

INTERVIEW

The Sensible Questions:

1.How have your life experiences affected your writing?
I guess my life experiences effect everything I write because they have coloured the way I see the world and how I think about things. I certainly bring a lot of myself to each and every story I write.

2.Which of your characters is your favourite, and why?
Oh, this is cruel! Do you ask a mother which of her children is her favourite? It's almost as hard for an author to pick a favourite character because of the love and attention we give to each and every one of them.

I suppose Janet from Travel Delight was a character I had a great deal of fun creating. She was a real conundrum, confident yet shy, bold yet timid her different approaches to different parts of her life were really interesting to write and convey to the reader.

3.What heat level do you enjoy writing most, and why?
My writing tends to get pretty dirty without me even trying most times. I love to write romance and foreplay but I am not one for holding back on the bedroom details. A lot of the passion and the emotion between two (or more!) characters come through in the sex scenes the most vividly. So I love writing the hot, hot, hot scenes though the build up to get there is fun too!

4.What authors have influenced you most (not necessarily in the romance genre)?
You know, I think every book you read influences you in a way, even if you hate it. As a writer I think that's even more the case for me. If I read a book and I can't get into the style, that influences me to not write like that. If I enjoy a style of writing I will try to weave that into my own writing but I don't think about it like that.

I am going to talk about the same authors I count as favourites here as I love the way Pratchett fits in his witty asides and puns, I like to do that too. David Gemmell creates beautiful characters with real flaws and attributes and I know I try to keep my characters real and well rounded.

I am lucky to have known several incredibly talented erotic romance Authors for several years through a certain website and I know

5.Which comes to you first when you write, the basic premise of the plot, or the characters?
This really does vary from story to story. Sometimes I will have a character in my mind and I will literally write a story for them. I do believe though that usually it is the plot that comes to me first or at least a flash of the plot and then I fill in the characters and other details as I go.

6.What is the biggest lesson that you've learned since you began writing?
You know Dory from Finding Nemo sings "Just keep swimming, just keep Swimming?" Well, I sing "Just keep writing, just keep writing!"

It seems obvious to say that to be an author you have to write, well it is but that simple lesson, to keep writing no matter what is what I have learnt. Press on, write daily as often as you can and keep going.

You can often get caught up in promotion and chatting and updating your website and facebook and tweeting this, that and the other but all of that is pointless if you don't keep up with your writing.

7.Describe your writing space.
Now, the place where I actually type is my sofa in the living room. I have a little white table that my laptop rests on and by the side of it you will find my bag of tricks, a pad of paper, some pens and other assorted stuff.

My bag of tricks essentially holds all the medication I need to take. I had my thyroid removed last September so I have to take a thyroxine tablet each day. Keeping it next to my computer means it's one of the first things I do in the morning as I get up at 5.30am most days to enjoy some quiet and actually type.

Now, that is where I sit and actually type but my writing is 90% imagination at very least and my ideas come to me in all kinds of places. Often they will come to me in a dream, sometimes I pick up ideas from watching television but the biggest bulk of them must come to me when I am traveling.

I don't drive and neither does my husband so we use a lot of public transport. So many of my ideas come to me on trains and buses, now you know where the ideas for Travel Delight and Secret Surprise came from! And I do a lot of walking too and my mind often wanders then and I will create stories, like daydreams, in my mind.

The Naughty Questions:

How many toys do you have in your toy-box? (and we don't mean Barbie dolls!)
I don't have a particularly big toy box, but we do have a few bits for when we have the time to really play. I have satin ties, a flogger, some little vibrators and a rather striking bright pink strap on. And lube, of course and some sexy massage oil. I'd like to get more but we manage quite well with what we've got, thank you.

What or who does your ideal man look like?
I do not know how to answer this really as I have a very eclectic taste in men. I will say this, I do like men with striking eyes like Nicholas Cage and David Tennant and a good, spankable arse. Everything in between is negotiable!

Oh, and they have to have a good smile, a warm, welcoming, melt me from the knees up (and down) kind of smile.

See? I can't give you any precise measurements, I'm afraid!

Are any of the sexy scenes in your books based on real life?
Well, in a way, most of them are. I write from my experiences so a lot of the love scenes in my stories have happened in some way or another in my real life. I might elaborate slightly or spice it up a little with poetic license but there are few purely fantastical happenings in any of my stories.

What kind of clothing do you like to wear in order to feel sexy?
I love velvet. The feel and look of velvet gets me in the mood. Also satin, so a lot of my slinky, kinky underthings are made of satin as it is such a slippy, sexy, slidy kind of material.

And whenever I slip on my denim skirt I feel good because my husband cannot resist my bottom when I am wearing it and when my husband cannot keep his hands to himself it makes me feel powerful and sexy.

What kind of clothing do you think makes men look sexy?
Do they have to have clothes on? Well, in that case then I like a suit. Oh yes, a man in a suit is bound to get me feeling hot under the collar. Or, at the other end of the scale, I like a guy in jeans and a t-shirt. When a person is comfortable and relaxed they look their sexiest, I think.

What is the most outrageously naughty thing you've ever done?
Oh, my, you really are trying to get me into trouble! I am not very good with judging the degrees of naughtiness but I have indulged in various sexual acts out in public. Under a Horse Chestnut tree in the park, the back of a quiet train, the cinema all jump to mind. I love the added spice of maybe getting caught or being watched.
