All about Jennah Sharpe

Jennah Sharpe is an author, mother and traveler who can be easily seduced by mint chocolate. Her imagination often keeps her up at night but it certainly makes for an entertaining life. She lives in Canada with her soul mate and two young children.
Unofficially: I'm living my dream, on a beautiful lake with my soul mate, raising two gorgeous children and writing. I sincerely hope you're living yours as well.
I've always been a writer. It's part of me. Only within the last couple of years have I begun working seriously on my craft. Thanks to Cobblestone Press, Total-e-Bound and Samhain Publishing and their encouragement, my backlist is growing monthly.
I'm currently a stay at home mom but my interests also lie in anthropology and International Development, in which I have a joint degree. It helps immensely that I know how to research, and the study of human cultures is often integral in my books. Sera, the heroine of Along the Hibiscus Path is an anthropologist herself.
How Jennah got into Erotic Romance
I got into writing erotic romance purely by accident. Erotic romance is the bulk of what eBook publishers are selling and since I'd just discovered the whole eBook phenomenon, I thought I'd give it a go. In general, my writing is more sensual than erotic but both are fun, challenging and my husband loves the extra benefits my research entails and creates. I like the idea of having the bedroom doors of my characters wide open. Their love lives are part of who they are and I don't think the reader should be kept out of any aspect of their lives.
The Scoop!
I'm working on a series of full-length books involving empaths. The first is tentatively titled Forbidden Empath and I have agents interested, which is very exciting for me. I also have another full-length about a gypsy boy who grows to be a famous musician and reunites with his lost love. I love this one. It's coming along quite nicely and the characters are fairly easy to work with.
Book signings and news -“ Oh my gosh! November and December are crazy-busy months and you'll find me everywhere. I'll be on the ebooklove yahoo group along with fellow author and Cobblestone Publisher, Deanna Lee as well as the ecataromance group on November 15th. What Jennah likes to read...
Susan Wiggs, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Emma Holly, Gena Showalter and of course, my all time fav, Karen Marie Moning. I'm having a hard time not ordering her latest release, Bloodfever. I'm asking for it for Christmas but that seems soooo far away.
It might seem strange, but I also love to read books meant for children. This comes from reading to my own. Inkheart and Dragon Rider, both by Cornelia Funke, are awesome. Then there is The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. Such a sweet and lyrical story!
INTERVIEW
The Sensible Questions:
-
1. What made you start writing erotic romance?
-
I was researching publishers on the Internet and it was then that I discovered erotic romance. It wasn't something I'd thought about writing before basically because I didn't know it existed, but when I saw the selection out there, I thought, wow! I sat down to see if I could write a sex scene and found it came fairly easily.
- 2. What inspired you to write your first book?
-
My first book was more of a sensual romance and I had most of it completed before I discovered ebooks. It was inspired by my experiences in the Caribbean and the heroine is based quite a bit on myself. It's a beautiful story, called Along the Hibiscus Path, that I urge you all to read.
- 3. What's your process for writing a book?
-
At first it would begin with a setting, somewhere I'd visited that called to me. More recently, it starts with voices in my head, lol! My husband doesn't find that strange at all ;) When they characters start forming, I have to get them down on paper. The plot seems to come last.
- 4. What do you enjoy about writing?
-
What I enjoy most is the elation associated with selling a book. Having it published validates all my work. I also enjoy fans and reviewers telling me how much they enjoyed a book. It makes it so worthwhile. That's not to say the actually writing process is secondary. It's a great joy as well. There is nothing I don't like about this business.
-
5. What really p's you off about writing?
-
I'd have to say all the elitism amongst the authors. NY vs epub. I do have to have one of my books eventually published by NY but if it were to happen *sigh* that won't make me any better than anyone else.
- 6. Who would you count as your biggest supporters?
-
Definitely my husband who wants me to find a t-shirt that reads, "buy my wife's book. I want to be a kept man". In addition, my mother who reads (almost) everything I write.
- 7. How do you celebrate when you finish a book?
-
I don't really celebrate because I never really feel finished. After it's all on the computer, I have several rounds of edits to get through and then the stomach lurch as I send it off to a publisher. It never seems done until it's in the reader's hands or on their screen and by then, I'm just so happy that it's more of a relief than a celebration. Does that make any sense?
-
8. Describe your writing space.
-
This depends on the time of year. I write first drafts on an Alphasmart Neo, which allows me to write anywhere. In the summer, it usually on my deck, overlooking the lake. In the off seasons, I write on the couch.
The Naughty Questions:
- 1 How many toys do you have in your toy-box? (and we don't mean Barbie dolls!)
-
Oh, not many. Let's say I've yet to replace the batteries in what I do have. I'm not a big fan of toys. I find they break my concentration and really, the real thing feels so much better. They do have their moments but my husband's better than any toy.
-
2 What or who does your ideal man look like?
-
Broad chest and big hands is what gets me going. Let's see…John Barrowman (I know, I know, he's gay but he can still count right?), Gabriel Aubrey (Halle Berry's boyfriend. He needs to put on a bit of weight though.)
Want some pics?
-
3 Top or bottom?
-
What? No more options? Lol! I guess if I had to choose it would be bottom. I'm a bit of a submissive. There are tons of other positions that I prefer. Should we get into that? Let's just say I like being on my knees.
Younger or older?
Hm…I'd have to go with slightly older. Experience is extremely important. Although, if you've read the dedication in Her Handyman you'll know that younger is never a bad thing in my opinion, as long as they know what they're doing.
- 4 Short shorts or short skirts?
-
I'd have to go with short shorts on this one. I have two little kids and skirts just aren't as flexible. I know. Boring answer.
-
5 How would you describe you sex life?
-
Awesome! Hubbie is slightly delusional in thinking I'm a goddess and I love him for it.
-
6 Have any of your toys accidentally gone "public"? Tell us all about it. (We won't tell)
-
I think when dd was two years old, she found the vibrator. She had no clue what it was so I just said it was mommy's and put it away. She'll never remember and it hasn't happened since.

EXCERPT:
She inhaled a breath of air and held it, knocking softly on the door of Peter's hotel room. Matching the number of the door to the one engraved on the key, she slowly released her breath.
She stood with her hands clasped behind her, her gaze raised coyly. Her skirt swirled around her thighs as she swayed.
When he opened the door, she let her gaze drop to his arousal where it pulled his trousers tight around his groin. Her eyes widened momentarily before she regained control. Even then she had trouble finding words. His white shirt hung untucked and open, revealing a finely sculptured chest and abdomen.
Phew.
She cleared her throat. "Aren't you going to let me in?" she asked
Peter immediately swung the door wide. "Of course, love. Welcome."
Sarah paced inside the room for a moment as Peter slid the door lock in place. It was minimally furnished but what was there was ornate. Impressionist paintings in light pastels hung on the chocolate walls. The bed, which drew her attention, was covered in a cream coloured faux suede blanket, accented by plush cushions and fat pillows. The headboard was a work of art in itself, carved oak depicting Roman gods in various stages of undress. Outside, fat intricate snowflakes drifted over the city on some unseen breeze. The night was calm, intense and Sarah knew this Christmas her life was about to change. The atmosphere of the room, including Peter's heady, masculine scent would throw any woman over the edge.
He came up behind her, sliding a hand over her shoulder and under her top to cup a breast. His hand was rough, but strong and knowledgeable. She sighed and leaned back into him.
We stop when you say, love," he murmured in her ear.
He felt her nod briefly. "What do you like, Peter?"
"Mmm." He nuzzled her neck. "I'll let you know, but first, we start with you."
Sarah closed her eyes. He palmed her breast, weakening her legs. She swayed. He reached his other hand around her waist to press against her pelvis. Heat emanated from the powerful, enticing man behind her.
"I want to be inside you, to make love with you all night," he groaned. Sarah didn't miss the fact that his voice was hoarse and strained. He moved against her, shifting his erection back and forth along her lower back. In response, she reached behind her to cup his balls. She gave a gentle tug forcing a blast of air from his chest.
It amazed her how turned on Peter seemed to be. She been hit on many times in her life but she'd hadn't been this intimate with anyone in years, aside from Greg. His was a flattery that made her bold.
Her hand strayed to find his erection. His breath grew shallow to match hers.
He spun her then to face him. "Lie down on the bed, love."
Sarah turned to sit on the bed, feeling suddenly vulnerable as he towered over her. It had been so long since she'd had anyone but Greg. To distract her thoughts from uncertainty, she reached for his belt. She tugged until it came loose, and then slowly lowered the zipper, releasing the tension in his trousers. Peter stood amazingly still, his eyes squeezed shut, as if her very touch would send him over the edge. When she released him to the open air, he hung hot and heavy in her hands. Sarah grasped him tight in her palm, her fingers unable to meet around his girth.
His eyes narrowed, darkening from sky blue to a fine navy in his desire. She lay back, propped on her elbows when he knelt on the carpet. The bed was soft, enveloping her arms in the down duvet.
"Relax." He placed his hands on her knees and very slowly, slid them up her thigh, taking her skirt with them all the way up to her hips.

EXCERPT:
Dressed in a light cotton sundress that accentuated her breasts, Stef felt very feminine as she breezed out onto the porch with a coffee in her hand for Cullen. He was seated on her ancient porch swing, his feet resting on the railing, ankles crossed. When he saw her, he immediately swung his legs down and sat erect. As she drew nearer, he stood. Great, he was a gentleman. That wasn't helping things.
He raked the hair from his eyes and smiled, taking the coffee from her hand. He didn't sit back down but leaned that tight ass on her railing. Stef sat on the swing in front of him.
He took a gulp of the coffee. "Thanks so much. I don't expect this every morning you know."
Her gaze dropped as the words stumbled over each other in her brain.
Speak woman. "I know but I make sure the moral of my employees is at its peak at all times."
"Bring me a coffee every morning and you'll never have to worry about my moral." He grinned.
Stef bit the inside of her cheek. "Deal," she murmured not able to take her eyes from his face.
They sat quietly for a time, listening to the morning sounds of the woods, the frog songs, the incessant chatter of an irritated squirrel and the rush of the river as it sped down the hills to the centre of town. When Cullen set his mug on the railing and pushed off, Stef followed suit.
"I'll show you where I want the wood piled."
"I'm right behind you," he said as he followed her down the stairs. She knew he took the stairs two at a time from his heavy footfalls behind her.
The pile of logs she'd had delivered was stacked in a pyramid behind the cabin. It was easily as tall as Cullen, but he stared at it as if it were a minor chore. She could see his mind working out where to start right down to which end to start with.
"I want it piled along this side of the house," she pointed. "That way I can get to it easily when the snow piles up."
He looked at her pointedly. "I'm sorry you have to do that."
"What do you mean?" she asked, genuinely confused. She'd never considered it work, simply something that had to be done if she wanted to stay warm. She didn't have baseboard heaters, only the woodstove.
"I mean someone should be here for you. Someone to do that work." He spoke softly.
"I don't need someone for that," she commented, trying to keep the bite from her tone.
No, I need someone to keep my bed warm, that distant voice chimed in.
"Cullen, I'm quite capable of taking care of myself. I've been doing it for a long time."
He took a step closer to her. "No, I'm sorry. You took my meaning the wrong way. I know you're an independent woman, but such a strong, beautiful woman should be worshipped."
Was his voice huskier? And his eyes, they'd turned a dark, smoky colour. She knew that look. It was desire. He desired her? What the hell? But there it was, right in front of her. She felt herself beginning to pant and held her breath for a moment.
"Cullen-”" she began, not really knowing what she was going to say.
"No. I'm sorry. That was out of line." She watched him wet his lips, secretly wanting him to talk more about her goddess abilities. He didn't. He watched her.
