All about Kaenar Langford

Kaenar LangfordI was born in a little village in the Mountains of Mourne on the east coast of Ireland and came to Canada as a small child. I think my dislike of snow and cold weather comes from my Irish background.

In my professional career, I was a kindergarten teacher. I hadn't written a thing since essays in university. In October of 2005 I went to a seminar on 'How To Write a Romance Novel' and twenty minutes before the end of the workshop, the presenter gave us five minutes to write an introductory paragraph to a romance novel. It was well received when I read it aloud to the group, so I came home and put it on the computer so I wouldn't lose it. It took me five months to finish Lucifer's Angel. I submitted it, got back some rejections then a letter from Ellora's Cave asking me to make changes and resubmit. I spent three weeks reworking it, resubmitted, and got a lovely letter of acceptance. The book came out in April 2007.

In 2008, Total-E-Bound accepted a submission and The Harder They Come was released in July of that year, just in time to celebrate their anniversary.

How Kaenar Langford got into Erotic Romance?

When I started to write after the workshop, I thought I was writing a Harlequin Romance. By the second paragraph, I realized that it wasn't going to be anything like that. I'm a very visual person, so the book unfolded in my head. I could see everything happening and wrote it down as it went along. Now I'm so hooked. I love to write m/m/f ménage, male/male and my last book was a male threesome.

The Scoop!

We went to Cleveland in March, so when we got home I started a story that takes place there. It's a male/male story about a guy, Vayle, who gets an unexpected house guest. Daniel is the little brother of Vayle's best friend from high school, but twelve years have made a tremendous difference in the scrawny kid. Vayle is torn. He's so attracted to Daniel, but he can't get past the fact that Daniel is his best friend's baby brother. It's a great story to write.

I'm heading to Kansas City near the end of July to a get-together fellow TEB author, Carol Lynne, is having for authors and readers. It will be amazing.

I'll be at RomantiCon in October. It's the first ever Ellora's Cave convention and will be held in Richfield, Ohio. November will find me at The Everything To Do With Sex Show in Toronto.

What Kaenar Langford likes to read...

I love Suzanne Brockmann, Shannon McKenna, Robin Schone, J.R. Ward, Karen Marie Moning, Sherilynn Kenyon. The list is endless. I ride my exercise bike ten miles every day, so I read while I ride. You can read a lot of books doing seventy miles a week. Those women have pedaled across Canada and back with me, I'm sure.

INTERVIEW

The Sensible Questions:

1.How have your life experiences affected your writing?
I suppose you could say that my writing is really a lifetime of stored-up fantasies. My life before writing was made up of lesson plans, report cards and schoolwork, so not really anything that would lead to the kind of writing I do. I'd tie the writing to a very vivid imagination.

2.Which of your characters is your favourite, and why?
I love Rayche and Keane in Indulge Me, from the Naughty Nooners anthology that came out in January. They get to spend a whole noon hour having sex at the largest gay spa/bathhouse in Toronto. What's not to love about that?

3.What heat level do you enjoy writing most, and why?
The hotter, the better. I love male/male sex. I love the idea of those gorgeous, strong male bodies writhing and sweating over each other.

4.What authors have influenced you most (not necessarily in the romance genre)?
Angela Knight and Shannon McKenna for sure.

5.Which comes to you first when you write, the basic premise of the plot, or the characters?
Often before the plot has begun to percolate in my brain, it's the setting that has solidified because I've gone somewhere for research and the story shouted at me after that visit or trip or tour.

6.What is the biggest lesson that you've learned since you began writing?
Not every submission will be accepted, but with a great editor, you'll have reams and reams of ideas from them for making the story better and resubmitting. Janice, my TEB editor, is one of those wonderful editors.

7.Describe your writing space.
Our house isn't very big and there are no extra rooms for offices and such, so I have a corner of the living room set up with a wide computer desk. One of my three cats often comes and sprawls out across the desk to keep me company. In January, I won a reviewer's choice award from Catanetwork reviewers and I keep that displayed on my desk for inspiration. The space is always messy, despite my best efforts to keep it neat. I have a big set of head phones nearby to wear when my son watches TV or plays Wii. They are left over from my older son's summer factory job one year and they work really well to block out the noise. I look like some kind of space creature sporting these massive noise-blockers.

The Naughty Questions:

How many toys do you have in your toy-box? (and we don't mean Barbie dolls!)
I have a few choice items that I picked up last year at The Everything To Do With Sex Show in Toronto.

What or who does your ideal man look like?
Tall, long dark hair, muscular and I must admit that I absolutely love leather on a handsome man.

Are any of the sexy scenes in your books based on real life?
That, and a very vivid imagination and a lifetime of fantasies.

What kind of clothing do you like to wear in order to feel sexy?
Thigh high stockings, sleeveless dress to show off my tattoo and sexy shoes.

What kind of clothing do you think makes men look sexy?
I have a list. Let me go find it. Nothing-as in wearing nothing. Sexy underwear and as I said before, I love a man in leather.

What is the most outrageously naughty thing you've ever done?
Spent a morning in the largest gay bathhouse in Toronto.

Older woman + younger man = off limits. Maybe so, but the ache between Ellaina's thighs and the longing in her heart make it more and more difficult to say no, especially when Luke wants to do things to her, like turn her into a chocolate sundae.

Ellaina McReynold's quiet existence is turned upside down by the arrival of a younger man. Luke Mason has only been in Spring Ridge a short time, but his daily visits to her café have inspired way too many erotic fantasies for her own good. Although her brain knows he's ten years younger, someone needs to tell that to her traitorous body!

Luke, who has pursued her gently but persistently, is delighted when she finally agrees to spend the day with him. But her lover is not really who he seems to be. When Ellaina unexpectedly finds out the truth, can she put aside her doubts and follow her heart? Luke certainly hopes so.
