All about Isabelle Drake
Thrill-seeking risk takers, heroes with the dark past, sexy locales, untamed women! A former Romance Writers of America Golden Heart Finalist, Isabelle Drake writes stories featuring men and women who aren't afraid to go after what they want. An avid traveller, she'll go just about anywhere and try almost anything - at least once - to meet people and get story ideas.
How Isabelle Drake got into Erotic Romance?
In the beginning I wrote sweet, traditional romance, but I kept pushing the boundaries and as a result wasn't having a whole lot of success. So, I dove right in and wrote the sexy story I wanted to write - even though at the time there was not a big market for erotic romance. Back then I couldn't find a home for that book, EVERGLADES WILDFIRE, so I hung on to it while I wrote other things like short stories and a couple more traditional romances. Finally the market caught up to and bammo!
The Scoop!
I'm always working on more than one thing at a time. One of the projects I'm working on is a cougar story for TEB - a former rocker and a cop. She's a bad girl turned good and he's the guy who's going to make her remember how much fun she had before putting away her leather. The first concert I ever went to was the Ramones and Devo (together, figure that out?) at a roller rink in Detroit. So I'm having a blast with this story tentatively titled LETTING OFF STEAM.
What Isabelle Drake likes to read...
I'm working on an MFA so I'm reading a crazy variety of things. Here's what's on the top of my to-be-read stack:
Never Let Me Go - Kazuo Ishiguro
White Teeth - Zadie Smith
Jesus' Son: Stories - Denis Johnson
Chronicle of a Death Foretold - Gabriel Garcia Marquez
INTERVIEWThe Sensible Questions:- 1.How have your life experiences affected your writing?
- Going places and meeting new people always helps me come up with story ideas, so I get around as much as possible. I do call on previous experiences when I need to relive something to remember how it feels. Like when I need to remember how it feels to be both shocked I think about the time my field caught on fire.
- 2.Which of your characters is your favourite, and why?
- Rick from EVERGLADES WILDFIRE because he was my first - my first erotic romance hero that is. He's an emotionally wounded man with a tortured past, which I love because those heroes are so intense.
- 3.What heat level do you enjoy writing most, and why?
- I shift around some to stay fresh. PLAY FOR KEEPS is an upbeat story so even the heat is lighter, more fun. FATE UNBOUND is a bit dark, with a more sexual storyline. My goal is to write a heat level that matches the characters.
- 4.What authors have influenced you most (not necessarily in the romance genre)?
- I read A LOT of romance while I was an undergrad in college and really appreciated the break it gave me from the stress of working full time and going to school full time. I could tell the authors wanted to sweep the reader into another world and really satisfy her with a great love story. Later when I started writing I knew I wanted to take care of my readers the same way.
- 5.Which comes to you first when you write, the basic premise of the plot, or the characters?
- Usually one character comes first then I get the fun of creating their perfect match. Sometimes though, typically for shorter projects, I imagine a great sex scene and then work backwards to figure out who would do that and how they got there. That's fun too. It's all fun!
- 6.What is the biggest lesson that you've learned since you began writing?
- Don't stop believing in yourself or your work. I apply that to all areas of my life.
- 7.Describe your writing space.
- I have an office in my house where I do most of my writing. I have two computers, one on each side of the table, so I can switch between projects. Also on my desk is a pile of toys, little things from birthday cakes or Happy Meals. A bit weird, I know, but that's me. Usually there are stacks of books and files around. Until I get stuck on something, then I clean up to give my head a few minutes to figure things out. That happens about once a month.
There are three huge windows that look out on my garden, which is great year round. My sister is a painter; I have several of her paintings on my walls.Work, work...
Mess I hide behind the door.
Escaping!
 My view!

The Naughty Questions:
- How many toys do you have in your toy-box? (and we don't mean Barbie dolls!)
- I tried to get my husband in a box once, but he's 6'4" and weighs over 200 pounds. It didn't work too well. So I threw the box out.
- What or who does your ideal man look like?
- My ideal man is doing something, just got done doing something or is about to do something.
Hugh!
 Hot!
Hotter!
 Hottest!

Are any of the sexy scenes in your books based on real life? Some yes, some no. Some no, then yes.
What kind of clothing do you like to wear in order to feel sexy?High-heeled boots, skirt and a great sweater.
What kind of clothing do you think makes men look sexy?No matter what I say there will be an exception to this, but I think a strong, capable man can wear just about anything and look hot, even jeans and a grubby t-shirt. I do like a confident guy in a suit though, that's yummy.
What is the most outrageously naughty thing you've ever done? That I'm willing to put in print? Skinny dip at the hotel pool where my sister-in-law had her graduation party. My husband and I came back to the room, all wet and carrying towels so that was never a secret. Other stuff, buy me a drink and ask me in person; I'll tell you something much better.

Forced to leave her homeland of ancient Greece, Taryn must search modern day LA for the one man who will tame her wild heart. The Oracle has dictated that she must submit to all men who approach her. In doing so, she will find the single man who desires submission to her, then, and only then, may she return to her beloved home.
Adrian, frustrated by being forced live as an unrecognized son of Zeus, seeks his fate from The Oracle. The Oracle has a dictate for him as well, he must be patient, accept what comes to him, and never act on his own desires - especially those of the flesh. In doing so, he will, when the time is right, receive the recognition as Zeus's son.
Reader Advisory: This story was released as part of the Nectar of the Gods Anthology by Total-E-Bound. Read An Excerpt:[Click here to expand/collapse]EXCERPT:Taryn stepped forward to the edge of the moonlit pool and lowered her foot, swirling her toes in the water.
If she and Adrian were together again, would he take her quickly? Pounding his hot, hard cock deep into her pussy with a fast, steady rhythm?
Or slowly? Stroking her nether lips gently until she begged for release...
She gritted her teeth against the frustration pounding through her veins, trying to stop wanting, but she was a mere human and incapable to supreme acts of strength.
Step out Adrian, come to me...
The breeze blew, flattening her red silk robe across her tight nipples. She turned slightly, angling herself towards Adrian and letting the night wind pull the fabric over her shoulders and lower, revealing the rounded swell of her right breast.
No man had ever been unaffected by her legendary beauty - but Adrian wasn't merely any man. He wasn't like any other man she had ever known. Or ever would know.
She descended the first step, watching the liquid motion of the water as it rippled like elusive waves of pleasure. Lapping gently, it rolled over the aqua tiled edge, making it glisten.
Other than the gentle splash and the constant hum of cars, silence pressed in. He had seen and chosen to remain apart.
For the first time, Taryn knew desperation, and it frightened her - the unfamiliar swirling tension in the pit of her stomach, the heaviness in her heart as though beating was too much effort.
Instinctively, she realised she was desperate the way a woman is when everything she wants has slipped through her fingers.
There had to be a way she and Adrian could -
She wouldn't give up, because to do so...would be...
Unthinkable.
Unbearable.
She wasn't permitted to approach Adrian, but she could use what the gods had blessed her with to lure him. Perhaps he would come to her again.
It was a tiny possibility, the smallest chance she could change her destiny. There was nothing to lose but her pride. More and more she realised pride came at too high a cost.
Arching back, she loosened the thin sash looped around her waist and descended. The water rippled, sending tiny waves across the glassy surface. The edges of her robe twisted and spun, then pulled apart to expose her flushed, bare skin when she strode forward, crossing to the corner of the pool where Adrian hid.
She halted, a short distance from the edge, cupped her heavy breasts. Lost in her own lonely desire for the man she once called her lover, she closed her eyes.
Using her fingertips, she caressed the soft underside, then lifting higher, pinched her nipples. Delicious fire flickered between her legs, but she didn't want to be alone. She wanted him.
Ached for him.
If only my hands were yours.

Two men, one woman, a secluded beach and a challenge - which man really knows how to give her what she craves?
Dominic Santos is fed up with Jace Carter's know-it-all about women attitude. That's the only reason he accepts the challenge - a four day road trip to see which of them really understands how women think. He knows Jace is wrong about women and is ready to show it. Sweet talking a woman into having sex isn't a guarantee of having a good time - finding a woman who knows what she wants is.
Keera Koltai is convinced she's lost her sexual spark. Burnt out from her work at an adult toy store, Fantasies Inc., she's headed south for some time alone - away from men. But thanks to a washed out causeway, she finds herself stranded on a tiny island with two guys. For years, she's listened to customers talk about lust at first sight, but she'd decided if it hadn't happened to her already, it was never going to happen. Her instant reaction to the men proves that theory all wrong. Read An Excerpt:[Click here to expand/collapse]EXCERPT:"On your way somewhere?"
Keera Koltai lifted her gaze from the nearly empty beer bottle wrapped in her fingers to connect with a pair of very liquid, very male eyes. Brown, with flecks of lighter tan about the same colour as the bare skin of his lean chest.
What was it with the guys around these islands? Didn't any of them wear shirts?
At least, this one had a black tee tucked into the back pocket of his low hung jeans.
He spoke again, his southern Florida accent hanging heavy in the damp August air. "Where'd you ride from?"
"Up by Tampa." Keera swallowed the last of her beer and rolled the empty bottle in her hands as she scanned the mostly empty roadside park. The only life enjoying the mangrove shaded crushed shell shoreline was a trio of stilts, wading along in the quiet tide. Over on the other side of the parking lot some parents dug through their van, sorting out gear while their kids jumped up, trying to touch the low needles of a slash pine.
When she looked back to the guy, he nodded, swinging himself around her bright yellow Buell and dropping onto the sandy grass where she'd stopped to stretch before continuing the last few miles to the isolated campground where she was headed. The day's last rays of sun crossed over his chest, casting shadows over his long, lean legs. Tipping his head, he said, "Nice bike."
The Buell was Keera's only real possession, a symbol of some constant quest. Maybe a quest for freedom, maybe a quest for something else, she really didn't know. The bike was such a personal part of herself, a part that even she didn't understand, she rarely talked about it with anyone. So she simply nodded and said thanks.
He slanted her a grin and held out his hand. "I'm Samuel, off-duty fishing guide."
Keera accepted the gesture, wrapping her fingers around his wide palm. Calloused skin rasped against her fingertips as he slowly pulled away in a release so gradual it was a sensual promise. A warm sliver of awareness slipped through her, and she found herself taking an appraising look at his leanly muscled chest and flat stomach.
He noticed her stare and angled back onto his elbows, strands of his shaggy black hair catching in the evening breeze. "I was fishing the rivers that come off White Water Bay the past couple days, now I'm headed up Tamiami Trail to hang out with some friends, then, you know, whatever."
Right.
Whatever.
Keera knew where the conversation was headed.
To hook up or not to hook up.
It was the scenario she'd heard her customers at Fantasies Inc. recount over and over, mostly on Wednesdays when they stopped in to take advantage of the Hot Hump Day specials as they stocked up for the upcoming weekend. She loved hearing their lusty stories about frisky one night stands and leisurely afternoons spent with long-time lovers but lately as she'd listened to the tales she'd started to wonder if there was something wrong with her.
Like now, for example. Here she was with a sexy, easy-going hottie with rough hands that could probably deliver on some sigh worthy stories for when she got back to work but she didn't feel...enough.
Shouldn't she be panting? Or feeling all hot and melty? Shouldn't she be fantasising about all the things this guy could do to her - or what she could do to him?
"So how about it? You up for something?"
An inner voice shouted, this is exactly the sort of thing you need.
An opportunity to jump start her sex dive. But she hesitated. She had no reason not to hook up with him for a night or two - but she couldn't find a reason to want to.

"Full of intriguing characters and an oracle's declaration, Ms. Drake delves into Taryn and Adrian's story with abandon and delivers a sensual twist that will leave you breathless." -“ Love Romances & More
Read An Excerpt:[Click here to expand/collapse]EXCERPT:The Fates have been cruel, casting me from Greece." Adrian tossed the chisel from his calloused hand, watching it skid to a stop under the expansive window. Gazing across the private courtyard swimming pool towards the glittering neon lights of Los Angeles, he continued, "Sending me to this modern world, where I am nothing, no one, I - "
"Not even your true father, Zeus himself, can deny The Fates," Linus said to his friend, trying as he had many times over the past several weeks to remind Adrian that he had no control over his predicament.
"Curse The Fates and curse - "
"Don't. Have patience." Linus' tone was sharp but softened as he continued. "You will regret those words later, when you get the acknowledgement you crave."
Running his fingertips over rough edges of marble that would eventually be two lovers, Adrian scoffed. "Patience?"
Linus set down the brown leather chest he'd just carried in. "Let me remind you, you sought your future from The Oracle. Besides, you will be getting what you want - if you only follow - "
"The dictates." Adrian's hand stilled where the woman's waist would be. "It's a trick. Commanding me to not seek the touch of any woman, then placing me here, where she is nearby."
"And what would you do if you could touch her?" Linus asked. "Seek vengeance?"
Gliding his hand lower, he flattened his palm across the area where the lovers' bodies would merge and pressed hard. There was no room for gentleness when it came to the unfinished business between him and his former lover, Taryn.
He turned away so his friend would not see that cruel truth on his face, but the concealment came too late.
"What good would such an act do? It certainly would not help you achieve what you claim to want. Single-minded revenge does not suit a god - or even a half god. Perhaps the Fates know you better than you know yourself."
Adrian backed away from the mass of half-shaped marble, stepped down from the wooden platform filling the centre of the space he'd made into a studio and turned to gaze across the new series of sketches he'd started that afternoon.
He admired the outline of the naked woman with her full breasts then scowled as his eyes were drawn reluctantly to the unusually large cock of the man poised above her. Had that been him only a breath away from Taryn, he would have already been buried in her sweet cunt. In two thrusts, he could have had her writhing, begging and...
Enough!
Disgusted that he, a son of the great Zeus, would bother to compare himself to a simple mortal man, he spun and paced across the dust covered floor of the room he hadn't left in days. "What good can come of this isolation? Am I a child that I need to be torn away from the home I love and belong in to learn some...some...lesson?"
"The isolation is of your own doing. There is nothing in the dictate of the Oracle that keeps you within these walls."
Adrian's answer was quick. "What is the point of leaving?"
His companion's reply was silence, the type of silence one man offers another when he is holding back words better left unsaid. Finally, Linus found something that might offer comfort. "She hasn't seen you...yet. Perhaps you will accomplish what you must, then can return home with your cherished pride intact."
The light sarcasm of Linus's words went unnoticed. Adrian was strutting again, trying to avoid the table by the window where a few rays of moonlight that managed to cut through the skyline skimmed across the drawings. Pages and pages of the sweet Taryn, naked and exposed, submissive yet still in control, demanding that the man mounting her please her before himself.
Linus unlocked the chest and lifted the top. "You could have requested I send her away when she came about the job."
Adrian had reminded himself of that many times but knew provided with the opportunity he would make the same choice again. Taryn was out of his life, but she would never be out of his blood - or heart. The images of them together were not simply a part of his mind, but his soul as well.
Turning away, Linus began putting away the clothing Adrian had insisted he bring over from the small apartment they'd been given upon arriving.
"Do not think so little of yourself. She is here too, also torn from home, working as you are. And, most likely, battling with dictates as well." He paused, catching Adrian's gaze before continuing, "She is working for you. The Fates make no mistakes. There must be a rea - "
"There were not enough men in Greece for her to charm into her bed, that is the reason. She had come here to fuck every man who crosses her path."
"Rumours," Linus muttered, reaching into the chest for another pile of clothing. "Don't listen."
"I have seen her play with her charms with my own eyes. In Greece - and here."
"Here, you have seen what you yourself have asked of her."
"I only told her to go through the motions of sex." Frustration deepened his voice as he thought about both Taryn and his predicament with the Fates. "The job does not require that she enjoy it."
It was Linus's turn to scoff. "If you are thinking a woman like Taryn would allow herself to be mounted and used like some common slave, you do have a lesson to learn."
