All about Ellie Tremayne

Hi, I'm Ellie and I live in London with my husband of thirty years, two cats and a Bernese Mountain dog called Molly. I also have three grown daughters. I am so fortunate and live a couple of tube stops from the centre of London. This means that my hero-at-home of thirty years and I often jump on a bus and go to the Tower of London or up to Covent garden. I always take my trusty camera with me to take, what I call, 'atmospheric research'.
I also love to travel. Over the passed three years I visited East coast of America staying in Boston, North Conway and Portsmouth Maine. We have also been to Switzerland, France, Venice Italy, Germany and the Czech republic I also visited Houston for the Romantic Times convention last year and got myself a wonderful cowboy hat, but without the cowboy underneath it.
INTERVIEW
The Sensible Questions:
-
1. What made you start writing erotic romance?
-
I write erotic historical romance because if you're writing about people falling in love sex and it variations are an intricate part of that wonderful process. Although sex can be naughty - thank goodness - good sex, however you want to work it, is what I believe we all aspire to.
Also I believe that erotic fiction written by women for women is the ultimate expression of woman's lib. Sisters doing it for themselves, if you like.
- 2. What inspired you to write your first book?
-
Now you will all LOL at this one. I started writing seven years ago after my employer sent me on a stress management course. It recommended that I combat work stress by doing something I that I had always wanted to. After reading Katharine by Anya Seton when I was fourteen I was totally hooked on history and historical romances. For years I promised myself to write an historical romance someday and when I did it seemed natural to write it as an erotic romance.
- 3. What's your process for writing a book?
-
This is a difficult one. I start with the hero and heroine and a definite time period. With my first book, Price of a Sword released by TEB in Feb, I just scribbled a couple of pages of notes and opened the computer. I've moved on from that and I plot the whole thing right to the conclusion before I type a word.
I start with what will bring the hero and heroine together and what will pull them apart. I then spend a week or so plotting out the whole thing on a grid with scenes and action, this usual runs to ten pages. I often have scenes throughout the book in my head and slot them in where it helps the plot. Then I read around the period.
One of the joys of writing a historical story is that I get to delve into the past and all my books are based on facts and spent a great deal of time researching the details to weave around main characters.
- 4. What do you enjoy about writing?
-
The whole story weaving process. I love to take the reader in one direction and then surprise them by throwing something in they didn't think of. I love writing in humour so that the reader will smile and laugh as well and hold their breath. I just love it!
-
5. What really p's you off about writing?
-
Not being able to write full-time. Most writer will say edits, when the book comes back with little bit to change but any book needs a eagle-eyed editor to look it over and make it as good as it can be. I always listen to mine.
- What are you writing now and what have you got cooking for the future?
-
I am putting the finished touches to my next two book with TEB, The Price of a Sword set in 12th Century Cornwall, which is out in February and Hunting Diablo set in the 18th century Pirate infested Caribbean and due to be released in March. I will then be starting on another book, set a couple of years after the Norman Conquest, which I hope to have out later in 08.
- 6. Who would you count as your biggest supporters?
-
My hero-at-home, and my husband is my hero because he spend a lot of time looking at the back of my head and getting 'Um' in reply to every question. I also have two friends Paulette and Diane who have read everything I wrote and have encouraged me so much to believe in myself.
- 7. How do you celebrate when you finish a book?
-
I'm happy that I've sorted out all the twists and turns but I'm sad when I have to say goodbye to my characters. Seriously, I take a day of two off and rest my aching wrists and shoulders. Then I might read a couple of someone else's book before start my next one. It's usual dancing about in my head anyway and half plotted.
-
8. Describe your writing space.
-
I am very fortunate to have my own office to write in. It is lined with bookshelves crammed with historical reference books. My actual desk normally has orderly piles of letter/papers/bills on it along with a reference book or two that I'm using at the moment and my computer. In two words, orderly chaos!
The Naughty Questions:
- 1 How many toys do you have in your toy-box? (and we don't mean Barbie dolls!)
-
I have a few but more costumes, but my best toy has gotten me pregnant in the passed.
-
2 What or who does your ideal man look like?
-
My hero at home, but if he wasn't around then it would have to be a slightly older man like, Pierce Brosnan, Hugh Jackman, Liam Neilson, Harrison Ford or Dennis Quaid. See the older man know the route and doesn't' need a map or need to ask directions!
-
3 Top or bottom?
-
Both, and side-to-side?
- 4 Short shorts or short skirts?
-
Short skirts - ease and tease and because I've got terrific legs.
-
5 How would you describe you sex life?
-
How do you think I do my research for the books?
-
6 Have any of your toys accidentally gone "public"? Tell us all about it. (We won't tell)

-
Thankfully, no, but it's always a worry especially as I get older and forget where I put things.

EXCERPT:
As the words left his lips, Rhys' eyes returned to the young woman at Mervyn's left hand.
Aeron.
Her countenance was a strange mix of features that all came together to create a mesmerising effect. She had impossibly high cheekbones that drew attention to her large, sea-green eyes with their sweep of dark lashes framing them. Her nose might have been described as too short but its slim shape saved it from being snubbed. The full, red mouth would have been too wide and brash on anyone else but her small, strong chin balanced it. Her black hair cascaded over her shoulder in wild waves and ripples, finishing at the middle of her thighs. A gossamer veil covered it, secured by a thin circlet of gold.
Paying no head to the mayhem now building around him, Rhys let his eyes roam over her curves sheathed in the becoming apple-green gown. He couldn't help but notice that her pleasingly full breasts stretched the fabric across them. His fingers itched to trace their swell above the embroidery braid that decorated the neckline. He wondered in passing if her nipples would be the same deep ruby colour as her lips. His gaze travelled on to the slim waist that a man could almost fit his splayed hands around and the full hips. Having noted all her feminine attributes that stoked a man's loins, Rhys' gaze returned to her face. Her large green eyes fastened on him and fixed him to the spot.
My God.
The very core of his soul called out for her. Deep within, emotions he never knew he possessed surged up and dominated his thinking.
He knew her. His body, soul and spirit knew her. Although he remembered her as a child at court, he couldn't recall ever talking to her. She could have been no more than seven or eight when she went to Llewellyn of Powys' household. This was more than just physical attraction, though. Rhys had encountered that many times before. No, this was all and everything different.
The Price of a Sword
Henry Plantagenet, King of England, will not let such an affront to his rule go unchallenged. He charges his most feared knight, Sir Philip D'Apremont, to bring the rebel to justice. The price of Philip's sword is that the King bestow the earldom on him after Liskard's death and that the Earl give his daughter's hand in marriage.
With his battle-hardened troops, Philip, nicknamed 'the Saracen' because of his dark, good looks, gallops westward to Cornwall. Little does he expect to find that his wife is a lively, intelligent sultry woman and in a split second his heart is serious in danger.
When Rosawyn and Philip's gazes lock for the first time both know their marriage will be more than one of convenience and politics. However, while Rosawyn's curvaceous body fires Philip's desires, her strong mindedness set his temper aflame too.
Price of a Sword follows Rosawyn and Philip as their love grows through betrayal, misunderstanding and danger, as they fight together to regain Rosawyn's family lands-”and capture each other's love.
The Price of a Sword is due for release March 2008
