All about Charlotte Featherstone

Charlotte Featherstone So, a little about me. Well...as most writers are, I'm a daydreamer. I love just sitting around thinking about my characters. My husband thinks it's strange, and a little worrisome, that I am able to hear my character's voices in my head! I personally, think it's fabulous!

I love good chocolate, and thumbing through cookbooks, interestingly, though, I don't really care for cooking~just eating! Lol! And speaking of eating, I DEVOUR anything written by Lisa Kleypas and JR Ward. I'm positively counting down the days until Phury's book comes out. I've recently just discovered Lara Adrian's vampire series, and they're quite good, too. But not like Ward's brotherhood. Nothing compares to those hotties!!!

How Charlotte got into Erotic Romance

I'm not certain how I got into writing erotic romance, it really did just kind of happen and was a natural extension of what I always wrote, which were hot loves scenes. I've been told that my loves scenes, while erotic, are also emotionally intense, and I like that, because those are my favourite love scenes to read. As a reader, I hate having the bedroom door slammed in my face. It's a major coitus interruptus, and basically I want to throw the book against the wall when the happens.

The Scoop!

2008 is going to be a very busy year for writing for me. Besides signing on with Total-e-bound I've signed with Harlequin Spice, as well as NAL, under the pseudonym Sophie Renwick. Because of this and writing commitments (not to mention some personal life drama) I won't be attending many books signings or conferences. However, I will be in Pittsburgh in April, singing some cover flats for my fallen angel release The Watchers; Dark Awakening from TEB as well as my Spice Brief, Forever Yours. Stop by the expo and see me if you're going to the Romantic Times Convention.

2008 will see the two remaining Watchers book out with TEB. Unfortunately, the release dates for those are being delayed, owing to a ruptured appendix, and some unexpected work related drama. But, they'll be out, waiting to be picked up by the TEB readers. Also in July, my Spice Brief, Improper Pleasures will be available. It's a historical and a follow up from last October's Forever Yours. Visit my website www.charlottefeatherstone.net for all kinds of news, and cover art and sexy excerpts through out the year.

2009 will see more releases, but first I have to write them!

What Charlotte likes to read...

This is a really hard questions, because I love a lot of books, and a lot of different genres. Basically, though, I'm a romance novel junkie. I love mostly all of Lisa Kleypas' books, and Derek Craven is probably my fav hero of hers. I absolutely ADORE JR Ward's books. Rhage and Phury are big crushes. Mary Balogh's More Than A Mistress is a wonderful, romantic read. I just adore her hero in that book.

INTERVIEW

The Sensible Questions:

1. What made you start writing erotic romance?
This might sound kind of cheesy, but it really just happened. I was writing historicals and submitting them to editors. The response was always, 'you're a great story teller, but I think the love scenes are a bit too much for our readers'. Imagine my delight when erotic romance exploded on the scene!
2. What inspired you to write your first book?
You know, I've always wanted to write, but for some reason I never pursued it. I became a nurse instead. One day, after a particularly rotten shift, I came home and was grumbling about how this wasn't what I wanted to do with my life. My husband, in his typical nonchalant way said, 'well, what did you want to do?' and I said, ' write books'. Then he shrugged, picked up the TV remote and said, 'so write'. And that's basically how it all happened. He's been incredibly supportive ever since.
3. What's your process for writing a book?
My process has really undergone a lot of changes this past year. But basically, the characters somehow find their way to me. I spend weeks with them in my head, seeing them, hearing them and just generally getting to know them. Slowly the plot begins to take shape and I begin to write them. I'm not a very fast writer and usually spend a huge amount of time on the first draft, just tinkering and tweaking and building upon layers. The good news is, that my first drafts very often resemble the final form of the book and I don't usually have significant revisions to make. The downside is that it can take me a looooong time to finish a book!
4. What do you enjoy about writing?
OH, that's easy! I love falling in love with my heroes. I love creating wonderfully intimate scenes and discovering new places through my character's eyes
5. What really p's you off about writing?
I hate it when I lack motivation to sit my arse in the chair and hammer out the words. I hate it when the words won't come, or I feel the plot has taken me on a turn that has blocked me in. I hate it when a character won't cooperate with me! Lol!
6. Who would you count as your biggest supporters?
My husband, definitely. He puts up with a messy house, take out dinners and a generally distracted wife. My daughter, also, have been incredibly understanding when I'm holed up in my study, under deadline and I can't watch High School Musical with her for the 100th time. And my parents are also incredibly supportive, even taking my daughter for sleep overs because they know I need to get some writing done, and understanding when I have to break engagements because I didn't meet my word count for the week.

And I also have to mention my critique partner, Kristina Cook, who, without her, I probably would have given up eons ago. She's such a good friend, and she keeps me going when I think I'm just spinning my wheels. I'm very fortunate to have so many people pulling for me and believing in me. You can't make it as a writer if you don't have people there for you.
7. How do you celebrate when you finish a book?
I'm really rather bad at this. I'm a very driven person, and I don't typically do anything to celebrate. I just dive right in to another project, wanting to get it sold so I have more books for readers to enjoy. This year, with some sales to two traditional publishers, I swore I would do something, but so far, I haven't.
If anything, I'll spend a day reading one of my books from my overflowing 'to be read' pile, or maybe indulge in a movie. But typically, I'm pretty low key in the celebrations dept.
8. Describe your writing space.
I LOVE MY WRITING SPACE!!! Lol! I'm hoping that the batteries for the digital camera aren't dead and I'll snap a picture for everyone to see! I write in a spare bedroom that my husband re-did for me. He picked the colours and painted it. I just love it. It's the right blend of historical feel, and the bit darker, gothic feel I need for my angels. I don't have any gorgeous views out the window, but once I get in that room, I'm in another dimension and I feel very creative. Fallen Angel

The Naughty Questions:

1 How many toys do you have in your toy-box? (and we don't mean Barbie dolls!)
None! Can you believe it??? Not saying that I'm not wanting to try, but I have this terrible fear that I would just giggle, and that would totally ruin it, wouldn't it? Lol! But you know, I'm willing to listen to any and all suggestions for getting my toy-box started!
2 What or who does your ideal man look like?
Oh, this is fun....tall, dark haired, light eyed, deep voice, built body, maybe a tattoo...I'm not asking for much, am I? And I'm definitely adding pics...grrrr!!!! I've been hugely crushing on the actor Richard Armitage. OMG!!!! I find him very, very sexy, and that voice....

3 Top or bottom?
Oh, bottom, for certain! Lol! I like the closeness and giving up a bit of the control now and then.

4 Short shorts or short skirts?
Short skirts, although I'm not exactly what you'd call bootylicious. But this is fantasy, right! Lol! Yeah, short skirts, easier access.

5 How would you describe you sex life?
Good, satisfying, but it could be spiced up a bit....I'm ready to take the plunge. Hey, maybe I'll start that toybox

6 Have any of your toys accidentally gone "public"? Tell us all about it. (We won't tell)
Nope, no toys. But my golden retriever came to the door when a police officer was standing there (he was looking for a missing elderly gent in the area) and the damn dog had my size DD bra hanging out of his mouth, and then had the audacity to drop it, and the damn thing landed on the police man's boot. I nearly died!

Book one in The Watchers Series

Heavenly bad boys...these aren't the angels they taught you about in Sunday School!

Gadriel is a Watcher--and a Fallen Angel. The Angel of War. Cast out of Heaven for hating humans, and for failing to bow before them, he's come to Earth to enact his vengeance upon his brothers, and an unsuspecting mortal. When a human woman enters his life, events are set in motion that neither of them can stop.

For, unknown to the humans, there is a war in Heaven, a war between the faithful and the fallen that has been locked in stalemate for centuries. Gadriel alone has the power to change the tides--for either side. But does he want it? Can his desire for this human run deeper than physical lust, or has he truly fallen beyond redemption?

What the reviewers are saying

Seductive and hungry, Gadriel is one naughty angel. Charlotte Featherstone has written an intrigue tale of angels and the human women they fall for... DARK AWAKENING is the first part in this new series about God's fallen angels and these males are very much human in their traits and desires. Short, yet intense in it's telling, DARK AWAKENING should appeal to fans of the theological and mystical. - Kate Garrabrant, RRT Erotic Reviews - 1/25/08

Charlotte Featherstone takes us on an exhilarating sensual ride...her writing leaves the reader craving more and hurrying us through the pages to the finish. DARK AWAKENING is a fabulously erotic mission completed. - Melissa Kammer, Novel Talk Reviews
