All about Scarlet Blackwell
Writing has always been a bit of a compulsion for me. I've decided to quit a few times and always ended up going back to it so it's something I can't really control.I start a new book when an idea pops randomly into my head and I've let it take root a while. I might have this idea for months before I act on it and sometimes it hasn't progressed beyond a page before I start it whereas other times, I've got whole chapters planned in my head.Even if I don't have a lot to go on, I might start writing it anyway and see where it takes me. Often these books turn out to be the best although I'd prefer that I was disciplined enough to plot each chapter before I started writing. How Scarlet Blackwell got into Erotic Romance?
I started writing at aged 13. I've always written romance and have drifted towards m/m romance in the past few years. I've also dabbled in horror and haven't written off writing in other genres as my career progresses. The Scoop!
Writing hard to get more books on the calendar for this year. At the moment I have a list of 14 books to start but seeing as most of these are left over from last year, it's doubtful more than a handful of them will be completed.Readers can see my forthcoming books and works in progress on my website or follow my rantings on facebook. I welcome all emails. What Scarlet Blackwell likes to read...
My favourite authors are Emily Bronte and Edgar Allan Poe.
INTERVIEWThe Sensible Questions:- 1.How have your life experiences affected your writing?
- First hand experience of a broken heart is always useful.
- 2.Which of your characters is your favourite, and why?
- It's difficult to choose but I'd say Matt from Rescue Me, just because he incited the most controversy. I was thrilled with the amount of vitriol directed at him (and me). He's the sort of real flesh and blood character I like to write. I don't do sweetness and light and cardboard caricatures.
- 3.What heat level do you enjoy writing most, and why?
- I enjoy all heat levels. Sometimes I write certain heat levels for certain publishers. Sometimes I write controversial books for certain publishers. In general, most of my books are saucy but I've written sweet romance too, The Golden-Haired Boy last year and I Am Fallen, coming March 2012. I don't write sex for the sake of it and I like to think my readers expect a little bit more than that from me.
- 4.What authors have influenced you most (not necessarily in the romance genre)?
- Emily Bronte. She knew how to write wild, dark-hearted characters and I learned everything I know from Wuthering Heights.
- 5.Which comes to you first when you write, the basic premise of the plot, or the characters?
- Either. I can come up with a location for a plot and a character with an interesting job that I could write a story around or I could imagine a wild love story first and build the characters around that.
- 6.What is the biggest lesson that you've learned since you began writing?
- Not to hold each word precious when it comes to editing and to be able to accept much more criticism than praise.
- 7.Describe your writing space.
- Organised chaos.Places I would love to work...

The Naughty Questions:
- How many toys do you have in your toy-box? (and we don't mean Barbie dolls!)
- I've got Scrabble and Monopoly. I love the challenge of getting a great word score using the letters Q and Z.
- What or who does your ideal man look like?
- Tall, dark, a nice smile, good shoes.

Are any of the sexy scenes in your books based on real life? The whole of The Captain's Man and The Captain's Beloved are based on real life. What kind of clothing do you like to wear in order to feel sexy?Something black. What kind of clothing do you think makes men look sexy?A suit or a uniform. What is the most outrageously naughty thing you've ever done?Talking at the back of the class.

The Captain always goes down with his ship.Josh Addison is recovering from a broken heart on a two week cruise of the Mediterranean.Enter the captain of the ship, the dashingly handsome Kane Kessler. Josh is determined not to fall for him and convinced Kane won't look twice. That's not what his crazy neighbours Erik and Freddie think - and neither does Kane himself. He wants to make Josh the Captain's Man. What the reviewers are saying"It's a sin how much I enjoyed this story. I laughed so hard and then I felt so sad. It's funny, sexy, sweet, naughty and poignant all at once. At only ninety-nine pages, it's a lot more than I was expecting. I was anticipating just a frivolous vacation cruise romp with lots of hot sex. And it is that but it's so much more, too. It's a real romance with plenty of real emotional risk for both heroes." - Whipped Cream Reviews"a fun, holiday romp...a great read for a lazy Saturday summer afternoon...loads of red-hot sex..." - Dark Divas Reviews Read An Excerpt:[Click here to expand/collapse]EXCERPT:Moonlight and the lights of Rhodes Town shone on the ink black water. Waves lapped gently against the side of the ship. Distant music swelled and ebbed from the dining room.Joshua Addison had never felt more alone. He'd had a partner when he'd won this two-week cruise around the Mediterranean six months ago, shortly before Drew had left him for another man. Now Josh was here alone thousands of miles from home. He'd flown to meet the cruise liner on the island of Rhodes, boarded, walked around his first-class cabin, then come out on to the private balcony. He'd been aboard approximately ten minutes and already felt like hurling himself into the ocean.A sudden cry split his self-pitying reverie."Shit, what are you doing, Freddie? Why are you using your teeth? Christ!"Josh's glance jerked sideways. He gazed across the wall separating his balcony from his neighbours', squinting at two shapes in the dark. There was a man on his knees being held by the hair by a man on his feet."Sorry, I've got cramp in my leg. Fuck..." The man on his knees shook one leg out behind him violently."Jesus, you nearly bit my dick off."Josh's face heated with blood and he tried to sink back into the shadows in case his neighbours thought he was a Peeping Tom.It was too late."Shit," cursed the man on his feet, fumbling at his pants while his partner lurched up.The man giving the public sexual favour stepped towards the wall with a cheeky grin. Of small stature and thin, with dark hair, he was dressed smartly for dinner, even if his shirt was luminous pink. "Hi, you must be our neighbour. We were just"-”he coughed "christening the place." He held out his hand.Josh regarded it dubiously before shaking. "Josh Addison.""I'm Freddie Booth, this is Erik Dalby."Freddie's partner approached the wall. Taller, with red hair and a nice smile, he put his arm around Freddie's waist. "Sorry we disturbed you."Josh was more embarrassed than his exhibitionist neighbours. He mumbled something appropriate."Who're you here with?" Erik asked."No one." Josh glanced back towards the safety of his cabin, desperate to closet himself inside."Why not?" Freddie asked boldly.Josh glared at him. "Because I'm sad and lonely and have no friends." He stalked back to his cabin and slammed the door.* * * *Music woke Josh, together with laughing and shouting. Bright sunshine streamed through the curtains. The ship had yet to get underway and was still docked at Rhodes. He stretched and turned over in bed, listening with irritation to the racket outside for a few seconds before he got up and walked into the lounge area of the cabin to pull back the curtain at the window. It was his exhibitionist neighbours of course, and they seemed to be dancing a particularly erotic tango wearing nothing but a pair of Speedos each.Josh stared. Erik had Freddie around the waist with one arm, one thigh thrust between his as he marched him backwards, dropped him and caught him before he leaned over to press a kiss to his lips as Freddie shrieked in delight.Josh let the curtain fall back. Jesus Christ, was this what he could look forward to for the next two weeks-”Erik and Freddie rubbing his face in his loneliness at every opportunity? He hated them both.A shower didn't help his sour mood, nor did a glance at his watch that told him he'd missed breakfast. Cursing, he pulled on linen shorts and a T-shirt, and then left the cabin to seek out the dining room with the hope of getting a snack. He was soon lost on the vast ship. He hadn't put on suntan lotion and the mid-morning sun was already hot enough to burn. Hot and perspiring, he cursed his way around the cruise liner, his bad temper growing and his stomach growling.I want to go home. I want to go back to Alaska where it's cold and I can hide away. It's four months since Josh Addison fell for Kane Kessler, the Captain of his vacation cruise liner. He never thought to set eyes on him again but Kane's come all the way to Anchorage to see him.For Kane this is a casual hook-up during his downtime. He wants to prevent his heart getting involved at all costs. But Josh, hopelessly in love, has different ideas... What the reviewers are saying"This story has all the humour and emotion that made The Captain's Man so enjoyable...The sex is...wild, unabashed, wickedly sexy...This is erotic romance at it's best..." - Whipped Cream Reviews"...kinky lovemaking desires...an impressive happy for now saga that is unquestionably entertaining, as well as heartwarming." - Literary Nymphs Reviews Read An Excerpt:[Click here to expand/collapse]EXCERPT:Captain Kane Kessler had been back in Josh Addison's life exactly five minutes and already he was trying to touch him intimately, pawing at him through his clothes in the hall as Josh tried to kick his shoes off, giggling, falling over his feet."Wait...wait...just let me..."Kane growled. His own shoes were long gone, his coat on the floor. He grabbed Josh, swept him up into his arms and carried him through the living room towards the stairs. Josh clung on, panting in excitement, his last shoe dropping off halfway up the stairs.Kane paused at the top, looking at the three doors ahead of him. "Which one?""Straight ahead."Kane leant down to devour his mouth as he carried Josh into his bedroom, dropping him unceremoniously onto the bed."Strip."Josh scrambled to obey. Oh God, never in his wildest fantasies had he imagined any reunion with Kane to go this way. Never had he expected Kane to stride back into his life and take command the way he ran that cruise ship where he'd seduced Josh effortlessly last summer.Josh wore his less sexy boxers, hardly expecting to come home from work to an evening of passion. But Kane, intent on stripping, didn't seem to notice in the darkness of the room. Instead, he stood naked and grinning at the end of Josh's bed as though awaiting inspection.Josh tossed the boxers into a dark corner. He groaned, gripping the bed covers as his gaze took in the chiselled jaw and midnight black hair of the captain before he feasted his eyes on his six feet two of hard muscle and his glorious cock. "Shit, I think you might have got even hotter, if that's possible."Kane's grin widened, grey eyes glinting. "Now I know why I like you so much, Josh."Josh's smile slipped slightly. Kane's ego he could do without, a gentle reminder that Josh wasn't in his league and was lucky Kane had ever noticed him. Not that Kane had ever said that when they were together. On the contrary, he had showered Josh with compliments and told him he was beautiful. Josh's inferiority complex was all in his own imagination.Kane grabbed his pants and dug into the pocket. He dropped a box of condoms and a tube of lubricant on the bed. Then he pounced. They kissed, Kane holding Josh's hands down by his head in a way which drove his excitement to boiling point. When Josh flexed his wrists, Kane merely pressed harder until Josh whimpered, bucking his erection into Kane's, desperate to touch him.Kane let go and sat back on his heels, smirking. He reached for the condom box and unwrapped it before he took out one foil square, tearing it open.Perhaps he saw the disappointed look on Josh's face as he rolled the condom on because he said, "This might not be the romantic reunion you were hoping for and more of a wham, bam, thank you man, and I'm sorry about that, but Josh baby, if you so much as touch me, I'll explode."He always read Josh just right, but he always knew just what to say too. "It's okay," he said softly, running his hands up Kane's bare thighs.Kane opened the lube. "You sure?""Yes. I want you.""Good." Kane leant down to kiss him. Wet fingers probed gently between Josh's legs. Kane left a trail of searing kisses down Josh's torso to his groin. He sucked Josh's cock down while he fingered him.Josh writhed beneath him, gripping Kane's hair. "Fuck, oh Kane, I missed you, I missed you." He could have bitten his tongue off. Well done, Josh, he's here ten minutes and already you're getting all emotional. He'll be out the door as soon as he's shot his load.Kane looked up from beneath dense lashes, eyes unreadable in the darkness. He slid off Josh's cock and settled himself on his arms over him. "I missed you too," he whispered with lips an inch away from Josh's as he thrust into him.Josh arched up in shock, clawing Kane's back. He'd had no one in four months and the pain-pleasure of the penetration was exquisite. He danced along a line of ecstasy so double-edged as Kane fucked him, he was not sure whether to beg him to stop or scream for more.Kane noticed. He stopped his movements. "Are you okay?" He stroked damp hair back gently from Josh's face."Yes, yes.""Are you sure?""Yes.""Can you take this?""I think I proved I could take you last summer.""That was last summer. Has it been a while?" Kane held steady eye contact. He was asking Josh if there'd been anyone else since him. Sin Row - Genre: Gay MM/ Futuristic/ Ménage á Trois

On Sin Row, the cops are more bent than the criminals...Getting sexual favours from rent boys on Sin Row is a perk of the job for corrupt cop Blake Astor and his partner Ronnie Kemp. When Io Spencer appears on the scene, though, Blake's seldom-troubled heart gets involved. When things escalate out of control, is he prepared to risk everything for Io? What the reviewers are saying"...She really knows how to lay the emotion on in a clear, crisp prose. It can sneak up on you. Truly she is an artist...Sin Row is a short, extremely erotic story that is emotionally compelling." - Whipped Cream Reviews Read An Excerpt:[Click here to expand/collapse]EXCERPT:On his way to work, Officer Blake Astor encountered a robbery at the gas station. Some lawless hoods intimidating the frightened attendant with baseball bats. Blake drew his gun from the glove box and saw them off. He squeezed off several shots as they ran down the road. Satisfied, he tucked the gun into his waist, then drove away without paying for his gas, waving at the attendant. Such was the society he lived in.It was dog-eat-dog in this city, where the cops were as bent as the criminals and Blake took advantage where he could. The only way to survive was to look out for number one. And Blake did. His fondness for sex just edged his fondness for money.Everyone did what they could to make their way in this nightmarish, post-apocalyptic world of 2021. Just below the Canadian border, the city of Machan stood in ruins, sinister remains of shelled buildings looming over it. Black market trade was rife, the most common commodities going for hugely inflated prices. Blake pitied the children born into this festering hellhole. If he could escape, he would. But it would only be to run to somewhere equally devastated. He nodded at several hustlers with whom he'd exchanged bodily fluids as he cruised down Sin Row. Blake's philosophy was simple when it came to arresting people. If you had something he wanted, he would take it in exchange for letting you go. Some of these boys were very proficient at their jobs and he considered it a fair exchange. If you made him happy, he made you happy. He had his mind on yesterday's whore when he left Sin Row, turned into Police Plaza and parked. The curiously named Io Spencer who had sucked Blake all the way to heaven and then some in the interrogation room the previous afternoon. A smart-mouthed little hooker who'd done it with relish.Blake trotted up the steps into the building, nodding at the desk sergeant. Down the corridor in the locker room, his partner, Ronnie Kemp, greeted him. Ronnie and Blake made a good team, for Ronnie was as keen as Blake to milk the benefits of being a cop. He was clearly keen on Blake too. Blake was kind of interested. Ronnie was a six-foot tall hard-body with blue eyes and blond hair, and Blake would have been blind not to notice."Night shift picked up Io Spencer again this morning," Ronnie told him. "Thought you might like to know."A lascivious thrill snaked down Blake's spine and settled in his pants, hardening him. "I'll deal with him personally.""Thought you might."Blake shut his locker and glanced at himself in the mirror on the wall. His palms were oddly damp. He smirked at Ronnie and left the room. The interrogation room in which Io Spencer had been placed was the one without the two-way mirror. Blake was kinky but even he didn't want an audience. It contained a table and two chairs and there was wire mesh over the window. Blake pushed the door open, closed and locked it.A dark-haired man lounged in the chair, arms folded. He turned his head. "Ah, Officer Astor. I've been waiting for you."Blake strode forward. "You have?""Yes. I got the feeling you'd want to see me again."Blake didn't like that. Had it been so obvious to this man how much he'd enjoyed it last time?
